Few things are as memorable to me from this time than the music which accompanied it.

When I go to concerts and hear “Longview" (Green Day), “Feed the Tree,” (Belly) or "Black Metallic" (Catherine Wheel.) It is impossible for me to separate those classics from coming of age at that time.

Those songs were in constant rotation whether it be at a friends house, over the stereo at school, or MTV with classes that would work with it being played in the background. They are still excellent re-listening to them today but how they connected with that era holds a special place in my heart!

Rediscovering an Awesome Era of Film!

I hadn’t realized how good the 90s was for film until I spent the last couple of years honing in on this one decade. Before beginning this project a title’s release date wouldn't be a primary consideration for what I would watch.

The movies brought astonishing technical advances over prior eras and came up with some fresh stories. This is my partial listing of 90s movies I have seen so far. I plan to continue compiling this list as soon as I figure out the technical details for how to do that. The actual list is much longer.

This is a project I made in design school about laying out a book on a music group. Its main influence were the 90s grunge bands that of which whose visuals had a great impact on me. It won the Addy Award for this project that year!

This video was quickly thrown together so that I could advertise it on social media. I wanted its pace to move quickly so that people wouldn't scroll past it. Now that it is on my website I should really take the time to explain it. This work was the most elaborate print assignment I have ever done. Below is the book shown from the side view that has a pretty neat effect with what is called a "French Fold." With this fold the image wraps around the outer side of the page. In other words what you see on the side is actually the center of the page folded in half. The ends of the page are up against the spine.

Next to that is my design journal where I collect and draw examples that I have found. I fascinates me looking back that album design from 1997 and 1994 for some of the first ideas I thought of when I was able to pull from any period. I made this journal before starting my 90s project and yet that was still where my mind went.
